The Wall Street Journal Bureau Chief Lynn Cook and Deputy Bureau Chief Vanessa Fuhrmans will discuss the disproportionate effects COVID-19 has had on women’s careers and the possible lingering consequences. The session will explore how economic disruption in women-focused industries such as retail and service jobs, as well as child care issues have hit women harder than their male counterparts. Cook and Fuhrmans will also address how these aspects could have lingering consequences for women’s careers.

Lynn Cook is the Management Bureau Chief for The Wall Street Journal, leading coverage of careers, executive leadership and the future of work. She previously was Deputy Texas Bureau Chief, based in Houston, where she wrote and edited energy coverage. Ms. Cook joined the Journal in 2013 after stints at the Houston Chronicle and Forbes. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and was a Knight Bagehot Fellow in Economics and Business Journalism at Columbia University.

Vanessa Fuhrmans is deputy bureau chief of The Wall Street Journal's management bureau, where she edits and writes about management and workplace issues. A 20-year veteran of the Journal, Ms. Fuhrmans is a 2020 recipient of the Newswomen's Club of New York's Front-Page Award for her coverage of women in the workplace and has served two tours as a foreign correspondent in Germany. Prior to the Journal, Ms. Fuhrmans was a correspondent for Bloomberg News and has a Master of Science from Georgetown University’s Edmond A. Walsh School of Foreign Service.
