We will review historical data about evictions in Harris County, and discuss the future of housing stability during the COVID-19 crisis. Over the last few years, Harris County has seen more evictions than anywhere other than New York City. Due to the public health crisis, other states have implemented significant reforms based on evictions activity. Yet Texas and Harris County have a moratorium that expires on April 30, while landlords can still file eviction cases in the interim. Using real-time data collected from Harris County, we'll discuss what that means in terms of people and cost, as well as advocacy approaches that can help reduce the harm of evictions in the future.
